The Legendary Perry Louis – DJ set

Perry did not come through the usual Collector to DJing route, instead starting his career as a Boogie/Jazz Dancer dancing for groups like JTQ,working with one of the UK’s prominent dance collective JazzCotech dancers. He first took to the dance floors of the most iconic clubs in the UK in the early to mid ‘70s, which fired up his passion and excitement for the music and was inspired by the iconic DJs and Dancers of that era. Perry is influenced by those DJs and Dancers in his DJ sets today – all played on Vinyl, of course. He has worked as a JazzFunk, Funk and Jazz Dancer and has a Vinyl collection that mirrors his style of dancing.  As a DJ, he specialises in spinning JazzFunk, Pure Funk, Boogie and Dancefloor Jazz mixing in Latin, Brazilian Soul, Afro and Fusion and more.

Perry has had residencies at some of London’s top venues, most notably The Jazz Café in Camden where, over a span of some 15 years, Perry amassed more DJ dates at the venue than any other DJ in the world. In addition, he has set up his own Jazz, Funk and Soul club nights where he has shared the decks with some awesome Guest DJs, such as Gilles Peterson, Snowboy, Kev Beadle, Patrick Forge, DJ Spinna, Jazzie B, Keb Darge, Shuya Okino and many more.

·        Created Messin’ Around, a club night at the Jazz Café and the 100 Club in London which ran for 13 years and produced five compilations on Verve & Freestyle Records.

  • Regular, monthly DJ spots at Ronnie Scott’s, both upstairs for “Funky Nation” and downstairs before/after/in between live music sets in the main club
  • Monthly residency at the South London Soul Train at Peckham’s famous Bussey Building playing Funk 45s only as well as CLF Art Lounge in Peckham, playing alongside Aitch B (Soul II Soul) under the  “All About the Boogie” promotion
  • Current radio shows are:  JazzCotech Show, every Wednesday 7pm-10pm on Diverse 102.8fm.  Perry Louis’ Saturday Show every Saturday 1pm – 3pm on Global Soul Radio

Perry says, he cant wait to be back in Newcastle especially the Hoochie Coochie family, where he will play, a mixture or  Funk, boogie, jazz funk and a touch of jazz all on vinyl..
